A pair of chromolithograph prints from The American Lobster: a study of its habits and development by Francis Hobart Herrick (1858-1940) published in 1895.  They are mounted and presented in glossy hand-painted bobble frames.

Herrick was an American writer, natural history illustrator and Professor of Biology at Adelbert College of Western Reserve University.  He was approached by the US Commissioner of Fisheries in 1890 to research and publish a comprehensive report on the American Lobster.  Over a period of five years Herrick studied lobsters along the seabords of Massachussetts, Maine and New Hampshire which resulted in The American Lobster. This definitive work includes some 100 detailed drawings of Homarus americanus.  Ahead of his time, Herrick was concerned about the unregulated lobster-fishing industry.

The price is for the pair.
